Anonymous asked: Hey! Saw your thing about feminist arguing, and I think that using Michele Obama not being able to make policy is a terrible idea because the country elected her husband, not her, to do the policy making. She really just has an honorary title, nothing more. Instead argue that there hasn't been a woman president because society feels threatened by a woman president. Better argument overall.

The country feels threatened by powerful women, and my example of Michele Obama is a part of that. The first lady’s role goes beyond an honorary title and she has always had issues that she has worked on. But their options are limited. In the 90s, Hillary Clinton tried to work on healthcare but was widely criticized for it, including but not limited to mockery of her headbands. No man would ever get criticized for the clothes they wear! Laura Bush stuck to literacy and whatnot and was treated much nicer. Michele Obama, on the other hand, is as educated as Barack and was his mentor when he first started working in the law office where he got his start but is not extending herself beyond growing vegetables (i’m perfectly aware that it extends beyond growing vegetables, btw). Both Clinton and Michele Obama are powerful and intelligent women who can and should be allowed to make policy, but as long as they are not allowed to be in the spotlight, the country is not going to be able to reconcile with having women in power.
